Mission Statement and reflections

“To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.”

– Steve Prefontaine

This is one of my favorite quotes because it resonates with how I want to live my life.  Recently I posted a list of goals I have for myself and my close friend Lindsay brought up a few good points that I want to address.  Mainly that my list seemed overwhelming and a goal list can draw one’s focus inward rather than on other people and God.  This made me think…a lot.

My response is my mission statement inspired from a guest post in one of my favorite blogs, Mark and Angel Hack Life,  on the 6 Steps to True Happiness.  The first step is to develop a mission statement for your life.  So here is my rough draft: Pursue my passions in life with dedication and excellence while motivating and encouraging others to do the same.

My passions include health, racing, learning, helping others, etc. I can go on and on but my “goal list” reflects my different passions in life.  Hopefully my journey and accomplishments (and failures) will help others try new things, get healthier or more active, or even just share a dream they had with somebody else.  My belief is God blessed each of us with different gifts.  We should explore and develop over the course of our lives and through our relationships encourage others to do the same with their own gifts.
